| 22/5/2024 0 Comments ## Have you set up your Digital Driver Licence? I know many of you will already have been using a digital licence for a while now, but for those of us who live in Melbourne and other regions of Victoria, these licenses have only become available this month of May (after a successful trial in Ballarat). A digital license means that you don't need to carry your driver licence with you when you drive, as long as you have your smartphone with you. If needed, you can access your licence from an app on your mobile device. If you need to provide this licence (e.g to the police or as proof of identity/age), from the app you can generate a QR code that is valid for 2 minutes. Police/businesses will be able to scan this QR code to check for a valid licence. (Note. Some businesses may not have updated their systems yet, so it is recommended to carry your physical licence for a little while longer, during the transition period - especially for proof of age checks.) If you are on a full license, here's how to get your digital driver licence on your smartphone. (Note. P and L platers will need to wait a bit longer for theirs - it should be available by 2025.) Your digital license can be accessed from the myVicRoads app, or from the Service Victoria app - both of which can be downloaded from the Apple App Store and from the Google Play store. myVicRoads app To use the myVicRoads app, you must first set up a myVicRoads account - an online account that allows you to manage vehicle registration renewals and license renewals (and more). You will need your driver licence and a vehicle registration certificate or renewal notice to set up such an account, and will need to provide a variety of other information about yourself (e.g. name, address, date of birth, email address) Once you have set up this account, open the myVicRoads app on your mobile and sign in with your myVicRoads account credentials. Once you have signed in, you will be able to 'tap to view' (an option which appears at the bottom of the screen) to see your driver licence and, if needed, generate a fresh QR code for scanning. Service Victoria app To add your licence to your Service Victoria app (which most of us already have installed from COVID days), open the app and go to My wallet (at bottom) and choose Add (+). You will see Driver Licence is now an option. When you tap this, you will be asked to prove your identity with two identity documents - e.g. Passport, Driver licence, Medicare Card, etc. Once your identity has been accepted, you will need to enter details from your Driver Licence (again if you just proved your identity using that). Once this is completed, the digital licence can be accessed from the My wallet view of the Service Victoria app. It looks exactly the same in the Services Victoria app as in the myVicRoads app, providing the QR code feature for when you need to present that licence. ## Need Help? iTandCoffee offers friendly one-on-one assistance - either in person (if you are local to Camberwell, Victoria) or remotely (using Zoom, Teamviewer or even just over the phone or a messaging service).
